Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division C

Braintree v St Osyth

St Osyth won by 255 runs

James Handscombe scored a career-best 136 as St Osyth secured a resounding 255-run win

at Braintree in Divsion C.

Handscombe and fellow opener Jason Lloyd took advantage of some loose bowling to score at six an over  putting on 152 in 25 overs before Lloyd was unlucky to be run out for 51. Handscombe then added 69 with James Nightingale, during which time he reached his century and went on to a magnificent 136 which included 20 fours. Alex Hennessy increased the scoring rate with some well struck shots, and with brother Sam, added 35 in the last 2 overs, dispatching the final ball for a straight six, which left him undefeated on 53 as St Osyth rattled up 313-4.

Braintree’s openers Jay Smith and Carl Lees had put on 339 in their last Division C match, but sadly there was to be no repeat this time, as Lees was disastrously run out in the first over. James Bean and Ross Evans quickly got to work on the home side’s batting with Bean returning an incredible 5-8, whilst Evans weighed in with 3 wickets as Braintree surrendered in 22 overs for just 58.
